Method

What the Index measures

  1. The Index measures publicly listed inventory and its net change. It does not measure sold items or store revenue.
  2. Net change = previous count − current count, matched on the BrickLink store ID. Stores that are new or have disappeared are not counted as zero, so only stores present in both measurements are compared.
  3. Net decrease is not confirmed sales: removals, corrections and moved inventory also lower a count, and restocking can hide sales. Known corrections are flagged and excluded from rankings and badges.

Method

How the data is collected

  1. Once a week (Mondays 06:00 Swedish time) we read BrickLink's public directory of Swedish stores: store ID, name, region and listed item count. The region is left blank when BrickLink lists none.
  2. Every fetch identifies itself with a user agent and contact address, follows BrickLink's robots.txt, and makes two requests in total (robots.txt and the directory).
  3. The raw page is archived together with a SHA-256 hash and the check time, so every published number can be traced back to its source.
  4. Completeness check: the number of unique stores we parse must equal the number of open stores BrickLink states on the page. If it does not, the update is aborted, a visible error status is published and the previous verified snapshot stays in place.

The principle

Data, verdicts and sponsorship are kept apart

  1. Public inventory observations, editorial verdicts and sponsorship are stored separately. Sponsorship can buy visibility, which is always labelled as Sponsored, but never a rank, a badge or a score.
  2. Badges are computed from the data alone. Verdicts are only shown once the evidence behind them exists.
